Privacy First

I respect your privacy and use as little data as possible to provide you with the best service I can.

GDPR Compliance

Although this website is hosted in the United States, I respect and uphold GDPR rights for visitors from the European Economic Area and the UK. I process minimal personal data. My legal bases are: consent for the storage price digest emails (you actively subscribe and confirm via double opt-in, and you can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing), and legitimate interest for basic analytics. If you are located in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, please contact me at legal@pricepergig.com. See “Where Your Data Is Stored” below for details of the international transfer involved in US hosting.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the CCPA:

• Right to Know: You can request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information I have collected about you.
• Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information.
• Right to Opt-Out: You can opt out of the “sale” of your personal information. Note: Affiliate tracking (described below) may constitute a “sale” under CCPA because I share data with third-party affiliate networks.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: I will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

Email Collection

Your email address is collected, with your consent, to provide the storage price digest emails. Subscription is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link I email you, and I record the signup and confirmation times as the record of your consent. I store only your email address and your digest preferences (drive categories, stores, days, times, timezone and language) — no tracking pixels, and no open or click tracking. Your email address will not be shared with third parties.

Digest emails contain affiliate links to retailers such as eBay, Amazon and others (see “Affiliate Tracking and Cookies” below) — clicking one takes you to the retailer and may earn me a commission at no cost to you.

Every digest includes a one-click unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately. Additionally, by using the ‘Delete My Data’ link, you will completely and permanently remove your records from my system.

Website Analytics

I use PostHog for website analytics to understand how visitors use the site so I can improve your experience. I use memory-based storage rather than persistent cookies for analytics.

Affiliate Tracking and Cookies

When you click on product links on this website or in my digest emails, you may be redirected through affiliate networks. These networks use cookies to track purchases and attribute commissions to me. The affiliate networks I work with include:

These third-party cookies:

• Track when you click a link from my site to a retailer
• Remember this click for a period (typically 24 hours to 30 days, depending on the retailer)
• Attribute any purchase you make to my referral if completed within that window

This tracking enables me to earn commissions that help keep this site running.

Interest-Based Advertising

I do not use behavioral targeting or interest-based advertising. The affiliate tracking described above is solely for purchase attribution (determining if you bought something after clicking my link) and does not involve building profiles of your interests or displaying targeted advertisements based on your browsing history.

How to Opt Out

If you prefer not to be tracked by affiliate cookies:

1. Browser Settings: You can configure your browser to block third-party cookies. Note that this may affect functionality on some retailer websites.
2. Private/Incognito Mode: Browsing in private mode prevents cookies from being stored.
3. Do Not Track: While I honor Do Not Track signals for my analytics, affiliate networks may not.

Please note that opting out of affiliate tracking does not affect the prices you pay at retailers.

Where Your Data Is Stored

My website and its database — including the digest subscriber list — run on a server I rent from netcup GmbH, Daimlerstraße 25, 76185 Karlsruhe, Germany, who process the data only on my instructions under a data processing agreement made under Article 28 of the GDPR. The server itself sits in netcup’s ISO 27001/27701-certified data centre in Manassas, Virginia, USA, but the data remains under the control of netcup’s German company throughout: netcup engages no US company as a sub-processor, and the UK Government recognises the EU (including Germany) as providing adequate data protection. The data processing agreement applies full GDPR-standard safeguards to the data wherever the server is physically located, and any transfer to a sub-processor outside the UK or EU could only happen with appropriate safeguards under that agreement.

Data Retention

• Analytics data: Retained for 12 months
• Email subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion
• Affiliate tracking: Controlled by third-party networks (see their privacy policies linked above)
