Once you get past the first year, you’re usually golden for at least another 3 or 4. If you look at my drives, a hard drive will last less than a year, or more than 10 — depends which of my drives you’re looking at! Seriously though, there’s no hard and fast number; that would be too easy. Below explains the ‘bathtub’ curve of a drive’s life expectancy. I know — it’s happened to me: take the console on holiday with games downloaded, dead, after buying 2 new cables just in case.
