What counts as a good SSD price per TB?

Here is my no nonsense ladder.

Flash has got dramatically cheaper. So a “cheap” SSD from two years ago is now just an expensive one.

SATA, NVMe and the gen 5 trap

Most people do not need the fastest drive on the shelf.

They need a fast enough drive at a sane price.

A gen 3 or gen 4 NVMe is plenty for gaming, editing and everyday speed. Gen 5 drives run hot, cost a premium and give you numbers you will only ever see in a benchmark.

Buy the speed you will actually notice, then put the saved money into more capacity.
