RAID is not a backup. Consider when you accidentally delete a file — or worse, some malware does it for you: RAID dutifully does exactly what it was designed to do, and deletes the duplicate copy at exactly the same time. A backup, on the other hand, is a separate copy — one you can search for, find and restore, averting disaster.

In other words, a backup is at least that old hard drive you never knew what to do with, full of the most important data in your life.
