Yes, in one word, buy an SSD for your laptop right away! I’ve done this to many laptops over the years, both my own, family and friends. It usually starts off with ‘I’m thinking of getting a new laptop’ and a simple ‘What is that annoys you the most about your current one?’; nine times out of ten the laptop is great, happy with everything except how long it takes to load up Windows and applications.
SSD to the rescue. If it’s taking 2-3 mins to start Windows right now, with an SSD you can expect around 34 seconds to boot (yes I’ve timed it many times on older laptops), yes you could get faster, but I’m not setting unrealistic expectations.
An SSD drive is a cheap upgrade, and it’s something you can use beyond the lifetime of the laptop with a handy SSD to USB caddy/adapter.

Your laptop spinning drive is actually a super low power 5400 rpm drive, as opposed to the usual 7200 rpm desktop drive, or the higher speed 10,000 rpm enterprise/server drives. Great for battery life, terrible for random read times. Still if you’ve never held a laptop 2.5” drive and compared it to a full size 3.5” drive, when you do, you’ll wonder how on earth it all fits in that little tiny flat box.
